Starleen K. Meyer si occupa di traduzioni dall’italiano all’inglese da diversi anni; impegnandosi sia per opere accademiche nel vasto campo delle discipline umanistiche, come la storia dell’architettura o della musica, sia per opere letterarie.

Insegna inglese a Humaniter (Società Umanitaria) dal 2005 e presso John Peter Sloan-la Scuola da quando ha aperto a Milano nel 2012. Ha anche lavorato al (meraviglioso) Museo Bagatti Valsecchi di Milano dall’inizio del 2000 fino a dicembre del 2020.

Ha vinto diverse borse di studio importanti, tra cui la borsa di studio Fulbright-Hayes.

A livello universitario ha ottenuto il Bachelor of Arts in studio d’arte e filosofia (laurea con una tesi sull’arte in Platone e Aristotele), il Master of Arts (specializzazione – tesi: “Il cosiddetto Mausoleo di Galla Placidia”) e il dottorato di ricerca in storia dell’arte (Doctor of Philosophy – con la tesi: “La serie papale nella Cappella Sistina: l’incarnazione, la vestizione e l’inquadramento del potere papale”).

Ha anche pubblicato contributi in libri e riviste accademiche, tra cui l’edizione giubilare del “Bollettino dei Monumenti, Musei e Gallerie Pontificie del Vaticano”.

Starleen vive in Italia dal 1994, con grande dispiacere di sua madre, la quale predisse correttamente che, una volta in Italia, non sarebbe mai tornata a casa.

Starleen K. Meyer has been translating from Italian into English for years: academic works in the broad humanities field, such as on architectural or music history, but also literary works.

She has been teaching English at Humaniter since 2005 and at John Peter Sloan-la Scuola since it opened in Milan in 2012. She also worked at the (marvelous) Bagatti Valsecchi Museum in Milan, Italy, from early 2000 until December of 2020.

She has won various important grants, including the Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship. She has her B.A. in studio art and philosophy (thesis on art in Plato and Aristotle), her M.A. (thesis: “The So-Called Mausoleum of Galla Placidia”) and Ph.D. (dissertation: “The Papal Series in the Sistine Chapel: the Embodiment, Vesting and Framing of Papal Power”) in art history, and has also published contributions in scholarly books and journals, including the Jubilee edition of the Bulletin of Monuments, Museums and Pontifical Galleries of the Vatican.

She has been living in Italy since 1994, much to the chagrin of her mother, who correctly predicted that, once in Italy, she would never go back home.
