– In the style of The Microscope & The Roller Coaster –

I lost the words…

Maybe they were lost in the enveloping darkness
Maybe they were bitten off in a miscalculated breath.
Or maybe they were obscured by too much thinking,
Or intimidated in my not wanting to hurt you.

Or, maybe, they only drowned,
Squashed and killed by the weight of an error

…fatally.

I imagine a horizon that isn’t there
Looking at a leaf falling.
Night wraps around my being,
In the bitter cold of the wind a song echoes.

Words lost, words far away,
Words I’ll never get to hear, again,

…or to say.

Words that will remain indelible for life,
Next to the one promised,
To cut a furrow in my heart.
